The Trust was begun in 2001 and helped to achieve so much in the way of new stands, catering facilities, helping to launch the award-winning Bar Amber and getting vital representation at Board level for the Blue Square Premier South club, however it had become dormant in the last two years as committee members were drawn into other roles within the club. Now the Trust is back and bigger than ever, increasing from 40 members to 120 members within six weeks, and with plenty more committed to join.
Trust Chairman Nigel Dutson put the call out for new members to rally to the cause and get members up to 100 by New Year and he has not been disappointed. Dutson commented "I asked the supporters to give me a Happy New Year and they did not disappoint me, with 100 being smashed on New Years Eve but still more names flooding through. We have members in Malaysia, Australia, Canada, Scotland and England as well as our home supporters". The Trust is registered with Supporters Direct, the body set up to advise sports trusts and a representative has been working with the Amber Army to guide them through their re-launch. "They have been very complimentary about our progress" said Dutson "and they will continue to work with us as we progress in our aim to to re-instate greater supporter representation on the board of Newport County AFC". The re-launch was made partly in response to a comment made by club Chairman Chris Blight that there were two vacant positions on the board to be taken. The Trust have already met with Chris Blight and further meetings are planned. The aim of the Amber Army is to provide support and to work with the Board of Directors of Newport County AFC. It will act as a fund raising arm, as well as a pool of skills that may be drawn upon to assist in the running of the club, but most significantly, it is an instrument which will allow the voices of club supporters to be heard on the subject of a whole range of issues.
Aims of the Trust
